ATTENTION:  Make sure to properly calibrate attitude before proceeding with Compass Calibration.
the magnetometer calibration data is invalidated after every attitude calibration procedure (full attitude calibration and horizon alignment).

The Compass Calibration procedure must be executed in-flight and requires to steer the aircraft in 4 directions and execute some pitch up/down maneuvers. The total duration for this procedure is about 4 minutes.


Press MENU > TOOLS > EFIS > Compass Calibration.
The screen switches to Primary Flight Display mode, where a flight director (a magenta frame) shows the maneuvers to perform. Follow the magenta frame until the procedure is finished.
Assuming that the calibration is started with the aircraft heading North, the steps required are:

1.  Maintaining heading 000° execute: pitch up + 20°, back to straight flight and then pitch down -20°

2. Turn left to heading 270° by performing a standard rate turn (the proper bank will be shown by the flight director). The target heading for each step is shown as a magenta reference inside the heading tape.

3. Execute pitch up/down maneuvers as described in step #1

4. Repeat steps #2 and #3 for headings 180° and 090°, until reaching again the original heading.

5. At the end of a successful calibration procedures the compass instruments is enabled (i.e. red cross removed) and the HSI instrument correctly shows AHRS as data source, meaning that magnetic compass data are now available to the EFIS system.

Note: it’s not required to start the procedure heading north. Any starting direction is acceptable.
Note: If the calibration fails or the compass indicator is not enabled, repeat the calibration procedure. If several calibration attempts fails review the installation location of the A2. Magnetic disturbance could be too high in the selected area.



The small and light weighted ADAHRS module easily fits into the aircraft as it can be installed in any orientation (a proper calibration procedure must be performed). It is suggested to install the A2 aligned with the aircraft longitudinal axis, as it simplifies the attitude calibration process.

The right position should be:
- Near the pitot and static lines
-  In a location clear of strong magnetic or electromagnetic disturbances as much as possible.
- Avoid installing the A2 ADAHRS near electronic equipment (other digital EFIS, radios, transponders, etc), AC or variable DC cables, alternators, electrical motors, ferrous materials, etc. In such cases the proper behavior of the compass is not guaranteed (i.e.
the compass may be crossed as “out of order” or may give erroneous indications).

Hint: Use a hand-held compass to verify the magnetic disturbance in the area selected for installation. If the needle shows relevant changes or unstable indication, the location is not suitable for installation. Make sure to perform this test with all on-board electronic devices switched ON.



Scenario A.

No calibration needed.






Scenario B.
A2 ADAHRS  is aligned with the aircraft longitudinal axis, is not aligned with straight & level flight attitude but pitch and roll offsets are present: a Horizon Alignment procedure is required.






Scenario C.
A2 ADAHRS is not aligned with aircraft longitudinal axis,
nor with straight & level flight attitude:
Full Attitude Calibration procedure is required.
 


Horizon Alignment
Press MENU > STRUMENTI > EFIS > Horizon Alignment.
1. Make sure the aircraft is in straight and level flight attitude
2. Press the joystick to record a sample of pitch and roll angles



Full Attitude Calibration
Press MENU > STRUMENTI > EFIS > Full Attitude Calibration.

1. Select if the maneuver will be pitch up or down. For tricycle aircraft the pitch up maneuver can be performed by pushing the tail (pitch up), while tail draggers will execute a pitch down maneuver by raising the tail.

2. Reset A2 ADAHRS calibration data; select Start. Wait until the reset phase is completed.

3. Set the aircraft in level and straight flight attitude by using jacks or blocks (or by asking a friend to push or lift the tail and hold). Press ENTER (joystick click) to record the sample in level & straight flight.

4. Set the aircraft in a pitch up (or down) attitude and press ENTER to record the pitch up/down sample. WARNING: be very careful not to change the aircraft heading while performing the pitch up /down maneuver.

5. Set values to A2 by pressing ENTER. Wait a few minutes for the sensor to stabilize and realign. If pitch and roll after a few minutes are still not aligned fine-tune pitch and roll offset by executing a Horizon Alignment procedure.

The EKP V switches on automatically everytime the aircraft engine is started: this is the normal EKP V behaviour when you switch it off using the power button.

The Docking Station includes a protection circuit to protect the system form overfeeding. We suggest anyway to avoid high electric discharge , e.g. a voltage 10 times ahigher than the allowed 12-35V could damage the system hardware. To avoid this you may want to add a switch between the docking station and the aircraft electrical system.


This may be due to the fact that there is a new version of the AvMap Suite available, please check the upper bar on the Suite Home page, and make sure you have downloaded and installed the latest Suite version. 
An important update is the one introduced with Suite Version 1.3.41R (Windows) / 1.0.41R (MacOS)  released the 06/10/2013.

At the end of the procedure the maps will be correctly displayed  in the right column (purchases) of the Suite’s  Map management page, and they could be loaded on the navigator.


The map statuses can be 3:
-    Green: the map is u -to-date ( it is the latest released)
-    Red: the map is not up-to-date ( a new release is available)
-   Yellow: it is not possible to determine the validity of your map because the navigator has never been used. Please use the navigator first , getting a GPS fix position at a certain speed and then re-connect the EKP V to the PC.

The Geosat 6 can be set in "power saving mode".
1. From the main menu touch Settings
2. Touch Device Preferences
3. Touch Power Save. Here you can set 4 different levels of Power Save:

- OFF
- MEDIUM
- MINIMUM
- MAXIMUM


Choosing OFF, the battery life will be shorter, while choosing maximum power save will extend the battery life thanks to several tricks to save power.
Here is how the device acts in different situations according to the power save mode:

 
Case 1: THE POWER CABLE IS CONNECTED

- Status: OFF -  the device always stays on

- Staus: MINIMUM - the device shuts down after 2 hours of inactivity

- Status: MEDIUM or MAXIMUM -  if the device is left idle for 30 minutes, the display brightness is lowered, and then the device turns off after 2 hours of inactivity.

 

CASE 2: THE POWER CABLE IS DISCONNECTED (battery mode)

- Status: MEDIUM - if the device is left idle for more than 30 minutes (and brightness is set to over 30%), the display brightness will be automatically lowered to the 30% together with the backlit AvMap logo on the device frame.

- Status: MAXIMUM - after 30 minutes of inactivity, the device will turn off and the brightness of the LED AvMap will be lowered to 30% of luminosity
.

The APRS messaging feature is only active if Geosat 6 APRS is connected to a modem or transceiver that supports this feature;
connecting the Geosat 6 APRS to the Tiny Trak 4, you can send and receive text messages easily using the complete virtual keyboard on the touch screen of Geosat 6 APRS.
 
IF YOU DON'T HAVE A TRACK 4 TINY, YOU CAN NOT TAKE ADVANTAGE OF MESSAGING APRS
(This function is enabled only when the Geosat 6 APRS is connected to the Tiny Trak 4).
To connect Geosat 6 APRS to the Tiny Trak you must use our AvMap PC-Interface cable ( code CBDJNG0400 ) available in our Store.
 
Once Geosat 6 APRS is connected to the modem, the Messages menu will remain available even when the modem is no longer connected. In the Messages menu you can choose to send a message, read your messages, and check outgoing messages.
 
Sending messages:
 
• Go to Messages
• Tap New Message button and type the text using the virtual keyboard
• To enter special symbols, touch the symbols button and special symbols will open on the keyboard, to return to the normal keyboard touch the ABC
• To move to capital letters tap "A" key, tap  "a" key to return to the keyboard in lower case
 
VII. Send messages to contacts APRS
 
Once you have completed the message, tap Send
• Enter the recipients by touching the button RECIPIENTS and selecting recipients from the contacts list APRS
• Tap "Accept"
• Tap send message
 
Once the message has been sent, the software will return to the maps and the message will be saved in the sent messages.
 
Receiving Messages:
 
When you receive a message from a  APRS contact  a warning will appear on the screen, you can choose whether to read the message immediately or at a later time. In both cases, the message is saved in the inbox, and can be read at any time.
 
If you choose "Read Now", the message is displayed in order to avoid distractions touching the Read me button, to listen to the message read by the speech synthesis text-to-speech. In the APRS options menu you can choose whether to display the alert only for personal messages or for messages sent to "All". Tap the Options button in the APRS menu, then tap messages on the map to select the desired option.

1. Compile a flight plan on rocketroute.com, save and Export.

2. Select AvMap format and Save the file to a known location on your PC.

3. Once you have obtained from RocketRoute the file in AvMap format (.GPX) you can import it in your Geopilot or EKP IV using the GPXconverter application. Download for free GPXConverter and extract the content of the .rar folder.

4. Extract from the navigator the memory card (SD or CF) and insert it into a memory card reader. If the Card does not contain any USERIMG.bin, then copy here the .bin file found in the folder you have just downloaded.

5. Execute the .exe file Click on the “GPX to USERIMG” button (This allows inserting the GPX file in the navigators’ personal data folder).

6. Select the flight plans from the list on your right and Click Import to EKP. The imported flight plans will be listed in the left column.

7. Select as destination the USERIMG.BIN file found in the memory card. The GPX file will be added to this USERIMG.BIN.

ATTENTION: the space available in the USERIMG.BIN file is limited. You can save in one file (route, track or flight plan) a maximum of 1000 Waypoints, 5000 track points and 100 flight plan legs, and you can save a maximum of 60 files in the USERIMG.BIN.

8. Close the GPXconverter, click on safe removal and extract the memory card from the reader.

9. Insert the memory card back in the navigator, and select Menu, Menu, Database, and then File Management to load the Flight Plans you have just imported.

The APRS Messaging function is available only when Geosat 6 APRS is connected to a transceiver or modem supporting that function. Connecting Geosat 6 APRS to Tiny Trak 4 it is possible to send and receive text messages using the complete virtual keyboard on the Geosat 6 APRS’ display.

The iPod icon, unlikely the Bluetooth one, stays inactive untill an iPod has been connected nect to the navigator holder through the Y cable provided.

 

Just touch any data box to open the list of available data, select the type of info you would like to be displayed and confirm. Repeat this operation for each data box to customize your navigation experience.

The Geopilot II Plus is able to interface with any device (external GPS, etc.) that  accepts NMEA0183 data. Consult the manufacturer of the device to verify that accepts NMEA0183. WARNING! The RS232 devices can NOT communicate with the navigator.

 

The Geopilot II Plus accepts any video source corresponding to PAL or NTSC signals are not supported monochromatic.

1) First of all, please check that the red light on the plug of the cigarette lighter cable is turned on. if not than either the plug or the power source defective.

If the light is on, then the problem is on the navigator's side:

2) Be sure that you power the device connecting it to the correct connector (the one with a "pin" in the center on the back) and then, with a toothpick, press the reset button located at the bottom of the accessible hole from the rear of the navigator.

 

If the flight fields do not have a  ICAO code reported in the database of our data providers (Avioportolano for Italy, Aeroshop for Spain) we automatically create a code formed by the first two letters of the province and a sequence of numbers within the same province.

For different countries, there may be homonyms (eg Turin and Toledo).

Use the scroll symbol to find  the desired one.

 

The display of EKP IV is ultra-bright and visible in the sunlight. The color screen (64K) with a resolution of 800x480 pixels, is equipped with a sensor for the automatic adjustment of brightness.
We recommend you to avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight: when  the device is not used, the screen should not be exposed  directly to sunlight, exposure to ultraviolet rays of the display can shorten the life of the liquid crystals used in the cartographic plotter.

If you already have a MOTIVO II (with maps on external SD memory card), the software UPGRADE is free and will update the graphical interface and will add a several navigation functions such as trip computer, the organizer of stops and lane guidance.

 

New features at a glance:

- The "Trip Computer" was designed to help the driver to get an overview of the journey, showing informations such as average speed, travel time, stop time, etc..


- The "organizer stops" is useful to help you organize your trip. Entering the destination and time of departure, the navigator requires the distance or the time within which you want to stop. The software calculates the station and provides the point of interest closest to the stop, such as a gas station, a restaurant or a hotel.
 

- "The lane assistant" will suggest you what lane to follow in multi-lane road sections, indicating the type of marks present between the lanes.
 

- The new software also gives you the opportunity to choose between the vertical and horizontal display, to take advantage of the screen 4.3 of MOTIVO.


If you have a MOTIVO I with preloaded maps in the internal memory (so that it works without any memory card), the UPGRADE also involves the ability to read maps on external SD, so the free software upgrade is only useful if you intend to buy a map update.

 

No this is possible only with the Geosat 4x4 Crossover series and the Geosat Suite Desktop application.

The tracks in the navigator you can export and import from your PC using the appropriate function in the Geosat5 Updater, which you can download from our website in the support section. The tracks are exported in plt format, compatible with OZI Explorer and can be imported only if they are in that format

You can save up to 10.000 points for a total of 10 tracks. Remember to export the tracks and save them on your PC from time to time, so that you can free up memory. You can then reload the tracks you need at any time.
You can save a total of 1000 waypoint, marks and personal contacts.
